Sandra Bullock and Demi Lovato make $1 million Japan donations
Sandra Bullock and Demi Lovato have both made $1 million donations to the Japan earthquake relief effort.
'Blind Side' actress Sandra pledged the huge amount yesterday (17.03.11), and actress and musician Demi quickly followed, offering the same amount from her own fortune.
Demi was also pictured in Los Angeles holding a Japanese flag with the words ''please help'' written on it.
The Red Cross - who received Sandra's donation - released a statement saying: ''The American Red Cross is extremely grateful for this generous support from Sandra Bullock and her family. This contribution is vitally important as the Red Cross works to provide critical assistance and essential relief items in this time of urgent need for so many people in Japan.''
Meanwhile, Lady Gaga has raised over $250,000 by designing a wristband - which is read and white and reads 'We pray for Japan' in both English and Japanese - which has been on sale for just $5.
Socialite Kim Kardashian has also joined the fundraising, auctioning the chance to meet her in New York City on April 14.
The value of the auction item is set at $1,500, but expected to sell for a much higher amount, with bids already at over £1,000.
More celebrities are being targeted to join the relief effort for the disaster - which has seen up to 25,000 people feared dead and hundreds of thousands displaced and left homeless - especially stars who have made large sums of money by appearing in Japanese TV adverts.
A Hollywood source told the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper: ''Stars all make millions from those commercials for liquor or cigarettes that only air in Japan and in Asia and are never seen in the US.
''Plus Japan is one of the largest markets for US films.
''Stars love to run over there to promote movies. They should now be doing everything they can to help those people in this terrible time of need.''
