Miranda Kerr has been named as Earth Hour's global ambassador for 2011.
The 27-year-old model - who gave birth to her first child, baby son Flynn, with husband Orlando Bloom in January - is lending her support to the Earth Hour, hour-long lights-out event, in the hope of encouraging people all over the world to spend a sixty-minute period on March 26 using no electricity.
Pledging to turn her lights out in honour of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) appeal, Miranda said: ''Each of us has a responsibility for the sustainability of our planet and each of us can make a difference if we choose to do so.''
However, the brunette beauty - who also has her own range of organic skincare products - also vowed to go beyond the Earth Hour remit by dedicating her daily life to reducing her carbon footprint by using local produce in her cooking and recycling whenever possibleShe added: ''I will go beyond the hour by continuing to recycle and by buying organic produce from local farmers' markets.''
In 2010, 4,616 cities in 128 countries took part in the Earth Hour challenge, while 130 nations have already pledged to turn their lights out for this year's event on March 26.
