Hydrogen fuel cell scooter gets go ahead to run on public roads

Suzuki and Intelligent Energy have received approval for their fuel cell scooter to run on public roads.
The Suzuki Burgman Fuel Cell Scooter has today received Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA) in Europe and is the first vehicle of its type to be so approved.
The scooter was unveiled in Tokyo in October 2009 and is powered by an Intelligent Energy air-cooled hydrogen fuel cell. The United Kingdom government has been involved with testing these machines on the road and, having passed European Union standards, can now be built and ridden across Europe.
Mr. O. Suzuki, the Chairman and CEO of Suzuki Motor Corporation said: ''Our aim is to make eco-friendly fuel cell scooters increasingly common in Europe, in line with the establishment of hydrogen filling stations and other necessary infrastructure.''
Suzuki and Intelligent Energy believe they’re now on the way to producing an emissions free motorcycle and machines are under going road testing in the British East Midlands and London.
Intelligent Energy has already produced the world’s first hydrogen fuel cell motorbike and supplies a fuel cell system to Boeing which powered the world’s first manned fuel cell aircraft.
