The Whitepod Resort Makes New Strides in Eco-Tourism Development

Built around a historic 17th century Chalet, the Whitepod resort is located in Vaud, Switzerland, and offers travelers a unique opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the Swiss Alps while fully appreciating a true eco-tourism experience.

There are no cars, noise, or crowds and access is gained by snowshoe in the winter or hiking in the summer, thus ensuring a personal slice of serenity for each traveler.

Taking a departure from traditional mountain ventures, Whitepod offers it guests use of igloo shaped pods, which combine a minimal environmental impact concept with luxury amenities like top of the line insulation technology. Each pod is nestled independently into the mountain side, offering spectacular views of the Swiss Alps, as well as an awe-inspiring panorama of Lake Geneva.

The simplicity of a wood burning stove and sheepskin blankets exemplifies the concept of backwoods style living that encompasses environmental responsibility and sustainability.

The pods are covered in green canvases in the summer, and white in the winter, helping them to blend seamlessly into their surroundings. Each pod is pitched on top of a wooden platform, enabling it to be taken down with little or no impact on the environment.

Alpine living is redefined with the use of renewable energy sources and minimized energy consumption, all aimed at promoting responsible ecotourism and supporting local culture. As such, Whitepod was awarded the World Prize for Sustainable Tourism in 2005.

Snow shoeing, dog-sledging, snowboarding and skiing are available, and guests can also make use of the resort's very own spa, which offers personal therapy, traditional-type massage and the use of natural products.

The ski runs, which are open both night and day when weather permits, are open exclusively to guests staying at the Whitepod resort, offering an exceptional sense of privacy and intimacy, while snowshoeing is open for all day hikers.
